Day In The Life Of
Whilst students at LMaS will study A Level subjects, we are designing our teaching and learning approach to be different from a ‘traditional’ sixth form provision. We will provide an experience that blends a teaching experience that students will be familiar with from their secondary education, with a more ‘university style’ approach.
This approach will see our students accessing three distinct types of formal teaching:
- Large group lectures
- Traditional classroom teaching
- Smaller seminar groups
Alongside our A Level subjects, each student will also study the bespoke ‘Leeds Mathematics Certificate'. This activity will focus on individual and group projects and will support students in developing their skills in areas such as:
- research
- project management
- communication
- making presentations
- report writing
- team working
LMaS students will gain an insight into how mathematics is used in various sectors and become aware of the multitude of career opportunities for a highly numerate graduate.
There will be opportunities for LMaS students to link with representatives from industry, as well as interact with university students.
Whilst studying at LMaS, students will also have time dedicated to tutorial and assembly engagement. Within this time students will spend quality time with their individual progress tutors, as well as taking part in larger assemblies with their peers. As students’ progress into Year 13 the focus of this element of their study will transition from personal development to destination planning. We will encourage our students to begin preparing their progression plan from day one. A particular focus will be on admissions tests, such as the STEP papers, required for highly competitive courses.
