Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (D of E) is a world-renowned youth achievement programme that challenges young people to develop their skills, character, and leadership qualities. The award is divided into four sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and Expedition. Each section encourages personal growth and helps you build a wide range of valuable life skills.

  • Volunteering: Give your time to help others and make a positive impact in your community.
  • Physical: Improve your fitness and well-being by taking part in a sport or physical activity.
  • Skills: Develop a new talent or enhance an existing one, whether it's learning a musical instrument, cooking, or coding.
  • Expedition: Embark on an adventurous journey, where you’ll plan, train for, and complete an outdoor expedition, testing your resilience and teamwork.

Completing a D of E award is highly rewarding and can give you a competitive edge when applying for university or jobs, as it demonstrates commitment, perseverance, and a willingness to challenge yourself.

All LMaStudents have the opportunity to join the D of E Award scheme, whether or not they’ve participated in the award before. You can start on either the Silver or Gold level, depending on your previous experience. We encourage as many students as possible to participate by offering a wide range of activities that allow you to complete all sections of the award. Whether it’s leading a school club, volunteering in local primary schools, or taking part in a skill you’re passionate about such as crochet or soldering, there’s something for everyone.

We also provide a full expedition experience, which includes a practice expedition in Year 12 and a qualifying expedition in Year 13. These expeditions are not only a key part of the DofE but also a memorable and bonding experience.

There is a registration cost to join the DofE programme, and additional costs related to the expeditions. However, we offer support in the form of kit hire and bursaries to ensure that as many LMaStudents as possible can take part. More detailed information will be provided during Year 12 when you receive a letter inviting you to enrol in the scheme.
