Principal’s Welcome
Thank you for wanting to find out more about Leeds Mathematics School, LMaS for short.
Maybe you’ve already explored this website or read our prospectus or come to an Open Event, or perhaps you’ve only just heard about this brand new sixth form college and our unique partnership with the University of Leeds and its world-class professors. I’m delighted you’re excited by this incredible opportunity for your sixth form study.
When I was in the sixth form, I loved Maths and I wanted to go to a top university to continue studying Maths. I had dedicated, knowledgeable teachers and tutors who helped make that possible for me. They gave me the The Gift of Choice, and you will have the same at Leeds Mathematics School: through outstanding classroom teaching, personalised pastoral support, and excellent university and careers advice. You will explore your chosen subjects further and deeper than the A-level syllabuses. You’ll work collaboratively with mentors from industry and the University of Leeds to tackle real-world problems. You’ll have amazing experiences outside the classroom: sports and activities, career placements and work experience, volunteering and charity.

Leeds Mathematics School is one of a growing network of specialist mathematics school in England. The four Maths Schools already open consistently achieve some of the very best A-level results in the country. I’ve come to LMaS from King’s College London Maths School, and so I am certain that what we offer here will support you to achieve your academic and personal ambitions and goals.
My colleagues and I, we are committed to
- ensuring that you achieve highly and leave LMaS with many and meaningful choices available to you: in your learning, in your career, in your life.
- knowing the unique characteristics of every LMaS student, so that you succeed academically, develop your passions, and mature into a responsible adult with the skills and attributes to make real contributions to this region, to your community, and to wider society.
- promoting equality, celebrating diversity and being intentionally inclusive, to ensure that you and every person in the LMaS community flourishes and thrives in a safe and welcoming environment.
- every aspect of teaching, learning and assessment being research-led and evidence-informed, so that you have the very best experience in every lesson, every activity, every time.
I am certain that if you love Maths, you’ll love LMaS. I look forward to meeting you at one of our Open Events. Come and say hello and ask me why 153 is my favourite three-digit number.
